Science is amazing, beautiful and full of puzzles. I love watching students find that wonder, and start to think like scientists.

I resisted becoming a teacher after seeing the challenges my mom faced in the profession. While earning my wildlife biology degree, a wildlife education course showed me how much I loved sharing my passion for science. Now I teach so students can see the wonder in how the world works and leave my classroom as curious, critical thinkers who ask questions and seek answers.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceSome of my most memorable moments come after students leave my classroom. Former students have reached out to tell me they chose majors like forensic science, genetics, and chemistry because of my class. Knowing that something we explored together helped shape their future reminds me why I teach—to spark curiosity and help students see the possibilities science opens for them.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use the $25,000 to enroll in Miami University’s Project Dragonfly program to earn my master’s degree. The program’s focus on inquiry, conservation, and real-world science aligns with my goal of helping students see science as something they explore, not just memorize. The experience would deepen my knowledge and allow me to bring richer, authentic scientific learning experiences back to my classroom.
