Nothing beats the feeling when a former student reaches out years later to share how your class changed their life or how much you meant.

I became a teacher by accident. I originally earned my degrees in Horticulture and Entomology and planned on working on and designing golf courses. Then I spent my first Michigan winter building sand traps and was miserable, so I started substitute teaching... AND LOVED IT! So I went back to school for education.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI have spent my entire 24 year career in Detroit middle schools. My first school that I taught at for 10 years was located in a very rough neighborhood. For years, I wrote hand written notes to my 8th graders and included my email address in hopes that I would hear from a few years later and it happened more than I can count. The one that stuck out the most, was a student that contacted me 16 years after I had him. He keep my note all those years, pinned it to his bulletin board at U of M!!!
What would you do with the $25,000?Oh wow! I am not entirely sure? I try to give my students the experiences that they don't freely get. I try to introduce them to the outside and nature every chance I get. I try to get them to like school and science with projects and activities. I try to teach them responsibility and fascination with our many classroom pets. So... I'm not sure how I would spend the money at this time?
