Teaching was the most natural career path,for me,as a first born influencing a few younger siblings, developing a lifelong passion for learning who deemed school my “happy place.” It’s intrinsic. I always knew, from an early age, I would defy the odds to teach. Enlightening students,by making a lasting impact,is deeply fulfilling! Going on to lead and train colleagues,achieve National Board Certification(+ MOC),assume an ambassador role and serve students is my dream come true! It’s in my heart!
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience is linked to legacy. Former elementary students returning to me, as adult interns, to learn more about entering the teaching profession-from me has made a lasting impression. The then and now comparisons stick with me. What an honor to inspire, as my teachers had, a future generation of educators. It’s very memorable to teach over long spans to serve learners at various life stages. It’s humbling to be chosen. The strong roots stuck and they returned. Wow!
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use the prize money to offset the reduced income from retirement, donate to education charities or set up a scholarship, and use some as a personal allowance. I’ve spent more than a quarter of a century in classrooms so it’d be nice to experience more with a little money in my pocket. The best teachers certainly aren’t in this field for financial gain or summers off. It’s ALL about the kids.
