Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe children are the future of humanity. Every lesson is an opportunity to shape not only minds, but character, empathy, and resilience. I take seriously my responsibility to help guide young people toward becoming thoughtful, capable, and compassionate adults who will positively impact the world.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was delivering letters to a group of 5th graders whom I taught in first grade. I had asked them to write a letter to their future selves. They laughed at their handwriting and spelling, and were excited to realize that they carried the many of the same passions and dreams at 10 years old that they did when they were six. They were curious to know how they will change and grow in the future.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest in my education by pursuing my Master's degree in curriculum and instruction so that I can gain a deeper understanding of the best practices I can use in my teaching career. I will also use some of the money to support the college and career choices of my nephews as they reach the end of high school.
