Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to share my love for learning with students, although teaching is more than content. I believe we are also here to create a safe, peaceful, and productive space by truly seeing and supporting every student, no matter what they're facing. I work to be that steady part of their day both in and out of the classroom. It is truly a blessing to be a small part of their journey and I hope to see where all my students go in life.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I teach 9th grade and I am now in my fourth year teaching, meaning my first group of students are now seniors. What truly makes this job so memorable is when I have former students reach out to tell me how I made an impact in their life. Whether it was how I made them love biology or how I helped them see they can change their path. These experiences have helped me grow as an educator and I continue to work hard on a daily basis to be the teacher my students need in both my classroom and beyond.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000 I would continue to invest in opportunities for both myself and my career in education. This means paying off some student loans and having the opportunity to continue my education with a masters degree, where I can continue to grow as an educator and get the opportunity to impact more students beyond the classroom.
