For 31 years, teaching has been about connection and motivation. I am energized by the opportunity to unlock curiosity in students, to watch their eyes light up when a difficult concept suddenly clicks, and to witness the transformation that happens when someone believes in them. There's an undeniable joy in designing lessons that engage, challenge, and excite learners. I found a profession that allows me to do what I love every single day while making a tangible difference in children's lives.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I'll never forget, a fourth-grader I will call Bobby, who sat in the back corner of my classroom, arms crossed, convinced he "wasn't good at reading." He'd internalized the belief that books were his enemy, and did not enjoy reading. Bobby is dyslexic and has avoided reading/tests. The growth he has made this year is amazing. I see a sparkle that was not there previously. He is scoring higher on assessments and proud of his growth. He no longer has a bad image of himself as a reader!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would probably do the responsible thing and pay off my car payment. Teaching demands so much like emotional energy, creativity, patience, and presence. I give those things generously to my students every day. But I also deserve to live in the present. With that extra monthly cushion, I could prioritize what I value most: experiences and time with loved ones. Time to have fun with quick trips to Vegas, Rocky Point or CA would provide investments in my mental health and happiness.
