I became a teacher to inspire curiosity and discovery through chemistry. Working across one high school and four community colleges, I thrive on guiding students to think critically through inquiry‑based learning and hands‑on labs. Seeing them connect concepts to real‑world experiences reminds me why I love teaching—it’s about igniting a lifelong passion for learning.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences linked chemistry to Lake Elsinore’s algae blooms. Students tested water quality, analyzed pollution, and sent evidence-based letters to officials. Remarkably, representatives replied and visited our school. We’ve since established an annual testing tradition and community partnership. Over a decade, our work raised awareness and improved lake health. Seeing students realize science’s real-world power is my career’s top reward.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000 in a teaching competition, I’d first pay off my remaining student loans—the basis of my chemistry education and teaching certification that launched my career. This would free me to fully invest in students. I’d fund some advanced lab equipment for Lake Elsinore’s algae bloom testing projects, pursue other education enrichment and professional development options. Empowering future science impact!
