Tell us why you became a teacher

On the first day of school, I was in love with everything at school. My teacher seemed like a movie star! My crayons and writing tablet smelled like success. I was an avid reader and both the school library and public library held magical experiences. I still have mementos from my experiences elementary through university, it just felt right to choose teaching as my career choice. I actually teach at the District where I attended grades 1-12.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I teach writing and my students have published more than one Anthology of their writing. My students always blow me away with their creativity.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would start my own neighborhood center for students to gather and create what they are passionate about. I teach in a big city, but I live in a rural community. A student center would enrich the community and also help the young people to expand their horizons. As they grow up and leave the area, they could return and share their strengths and stories.
