Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a special education teacher to be the advocate I know many students need. I believe every child deserves to feel seen, capable, and valued. I teach to empower students with diverse learning needs, help them build confidence, and create inclusive spaces where differences are celebrated. Watching my students grow academically and emotionally is my greatest reward.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

During my second year teaching students with emotional and behavioral disorders, one of my students came to school the morning his mother passed away. He struggled with anger, and I gently asked if he wanted to go home. He said no—because I was his safe space. In that moment, I realized teaching is more than academics. It’s about being stability, compassion, and love when students need it most.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would donate a portion to The Tommy Nobis Center (TNC), a Cobb County, Georgia-based nonprofit that empowers people with disabilities and other barriers to achieve independence and success through employment. As a special educator, this mission is personal to me. I would also invest a portion into my son’s college fund to support his future and long-term educational goals.
