Tell us why you became a teacher

As a teenager, I’ve always wanted to help children navigate life. I worked as a juvenile officer and b served that many youth struggled with reading and spelling. I mentored the girls in my unit on self-respect and choices, creating a calm, safe space. Many of these young ladies said I that should teach, which inspired me to try to teach struggling kids before prison became their reality. I became a substitute teacher, passed my certification, and began my journey in education.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There have been many memorable moments in my career, but the most meaningful are when former students return to say thank you. Watching students enter my classroom believing they aren’t good at math or science, struggle to think independently at first, and then grow into confident learners by the end of the year will always be the most memorable part of my work.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were to receive the $25,000 dollars, I would pay off some debts and take a vacation. I haven’t had an opportunity to take a vacation since I began teaching. I’d also invest and help those in need. I desire to build wealth for the purpose of helping others.
