Tell us why you became a teacher

The relationships I had with my teachers growing up inspired me to become a teacher. I love celebrating my students’ milestones and being their biggest cheerleader. Working in special education allows me to collaborate with a team that shares the belief that every student can learn. I want my students to know that Ms. McDonald is always happy they’re there and that they belong.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was when a student of mine got on stage in front of the entire school and danced. It was a huge moment that took a great deal of confidence. Watching him step onto that stage, with his classmates cheering him on, and truly shine made him feel like an active part of the school community. Moments like this remind me why I teach—helping students build the confidence to believe in themselves and celebrate their successes.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Winning $25,000 would have a meaningful impact on both my classroom and my professional growth. It would allow me to purchase books, manipulatives, and resources to better support my students’ diverse needs. As a recent graduate, it would also help me begin repaying my student loans and jumpstart my journey toward earning my master’s degree to deepen my knowledge and better serve my students.
