Learn MoreI became a teacher to help students feel a sense of belonging and to show them their identities and experiences matter. After years in music and now STEM, I’ve learned that creativity, curiosity, and connection can transform a classroom. Teaching lets me use my strengths to inspire confidence, spark innovation, and guide students toward their full potential.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceWhile teaching music, my class was writing a rap and got stuck on similes. After lots of productive struggle—and zero progress—I sat down, frustrated. A student walked over and confidently said a simile was “when the school calls everyone to the cafeteria.” She meant an assembly. I laughed, learned a lesson in clarity, and realized I’m a lifelong learner too.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use the $25,000 to expand STEAM opportunities for students by funding hands‑on projects, updated technology, creative materials, and community partnerships. I’d build experiences that spark curiosity, support productive struggle, and help students develop real‑world skills. The goal is to create a learning environment where every child feels empowered to explore and innovate.
