Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe education can give children hope and opportunity. I want my students to know that their current circumstances do not define their future and that they can achieve whatever they dream or aspire to be. My goal is to encourage young minds to believe in themselves and strive to become more than what society may expect of them.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was advocating for a student who had been labeled as a “behavior problem” and was often seen as incapable of learning. I believed there was more to the student’s story and worked to ensure they were evaluated and received an IEP that would provide the individualized support they needed. Being able to advocate for that student and help secure instruction tailored to their needs was incredibly meaningful.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With the $25,000, I would secure a space to begin working toward opening my own school. My lifelong goal is to create a learning environment where I can make a meaningful impact on students in my own way. I want to foster a true love for learning by bringing back more hands-on activities and dramatic play, allowing students to explore, create, and actively engage in their education.
