Tell us why you became a teacher

I changed careers after working in print publishing and becoming a parent. Watching my own children discover new things sparked my love for learning and growth. I became a special education teacher to help students with disabilities build independence and reach their potential. I believe every child deserves high expectations, strong support, and the chance to see what they are capable of achieving.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was organizing a Valentine’s parent engagement event for our middle school classes this February. It was incredibly meaningful to welcome families into our school and showcase our students’ talents, growth, and independence. Watching students proudly demonstrate what they can do—and seeing the joy and pride on their families’ faces—was a powerful reminder of why I teach.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would start a weekend backpack program to support students and families in need. Many of our students rely on school for consistent meals, and weekends can be challenging. This program would provide nutritious, easy-to-prepare food each Friday, helping ensure students return to school on Monday ready to learn. It would also strengthen our partnership with families and address a critical basic need in our community.
