Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to prove to students that the world is knowable, not a mystery to be feared. There is no greater "aha!" moment than witnessing a child realize that once they understand a system, they gain the power to change it. I teach to transform students from passive observers into the architects of their own futures. Seeing them trade "I can’t" for "I understand" is the most rewarding experiment there is—one that proves knowledge is the ultimate tool for agency.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I teach Social Studies and Special Ed to show students that history isn’t just a list of dates—it’s a toolkit for the present. By breaking down complex societal systems into accessible pieces, I prove that the world is knowable for every learner. My favorite "experiment" is watching a student realize their unique voice matters. When they grasp that they aren't just subjects of history but its future authors, they gain the agency to change the world they live in.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I’d first eliminate the burden of student loans, allowing me to be a more energized, present educator. In the classroom, I’d bridge the gap for my Special Ed students with assistive technology and sensory tools that make abstract Social Studies concepts tangible. By updating our library with diverse, accessible narratives, I’ll ensure every student sees themselves in history. This investment isn't just for supplies; it’s for building a launchpad for future change-makers.
