I teach kindergarten Autistic Support. I love watching them reach milestones that will forever change their lives and being there each step.

Tell us why you became a teacher

The kids. My heart and soul belong to the kids. Every single child deserves a chance. A chance to learn, grow, and become the best version of themselves. They deserve to be taught in ways that foster their strengths and build up their weaknesses. They deserve to learn in away that is fun and meaningful, and exactly what they need to reach their goals. My classroom is kindergarten students with Autism. Different does not mean less. I may hold the title, but they're the real teachers.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

This year I met a child with Autism, 5 years old, identified as 'non verbal'. Upon meeting her, she did not respond or identify her own name. A few weeks ago, I asked her "what's your name?" And she answered correctly. She answered. Imagine not giving her the chance. She said her own name. Finally! The doors swung open from there. Most recently she has been able to label, with her voice, over 100 items. Don't underestimate the power of teaching with a heart.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Realistically, buy my students many, many containers of bubbles!!!! Take a trip to the zoo, and pay my bills!
