Learn MoreWhen I was younger I was bounced around schools. I missed something in Math and had to take remedial math in College. I was tutoring others in my classes and realized I wish I had help in my youth like this. Middle school math is a pivotal time. I failed and did not do well because I did not know anything about fractions. I became a teacher to inspire other 1st generational students who want to go to college, to fill gaps in knowledge, encourage, and to show care to those in need.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI had a student who was in 6th grade and 14. Everyone had given up on him but I kept trying. I asked him if he was ok and I told him daily he was smart. During class I asked for a volunteer to answer and he did the problem and explained! The kids were shocked and I was giddy. He knew the math and from then on everyone in that class respected me.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would do something for my school and donate a bit to our community . Maybe get a new board for my room or some graphing calculators. Have pizza delivered for us one day. The rest is use on medical bills, save for my daughters, and go see our family in Texas.
