Tell us why you became a teacher

I have always had a deep passion to bring out the absolute best in people, make them believe in themselves-to see them how I see them: a unique individual with so much potential to be extraordinary just by becoming the best version of themselves. To play even a small role on that student’s journey of life, is an incredibly beautiful opportunity that I am so thankful I get to be a part of. I love hyping students up when they find their passion. I also love being a safe space for all.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

This was when I worked for a kid’s summer camp. I was the Marine Biology Instructor. I created a program where I brought the children kayaking, snorkeling and hiking. I had some kids that were TERRIFIED to snorkel. By the end of their week, they were snorkeling and discovering a whole new world and passion for the ocean. They kept wanting to learn more through hands-on learning and exploring! We saw sharks, sea turtles, tropical fish; I loved seeing how excited they were to learn more!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would give a portion to my school. I also graduated from this high school in 2010 and it is such a magical place. I would give a portion to Loggerhead Marinelife Center in West Palm-they are donation based. They do incredible environmental work (my degree AND subject I teach). I would put a portion towards my student debt! Lastly, I want my sister to have a portion. She’s an incredible teacher struggling to pay for her classes to become fully qualified; kids deserve a great teacher like her!
