Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I love learning. My own teachers truly inspired me and made school a magical and safe place. I wanted to foster this love of learning for others and make children feel empowered and encouraged just as I once was. The profession of teaching and the magic of learning is vital now more than ever.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

The most memorable teaching experiences are always past students coming back to visit me. Every year, it amazes me how I’ve made a lasting impression on them when it’s the students who have taught me so much. It is beautiful to watch every student blossom and I love seeing how much they’ve grown!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would revamp my classroom by buying books I usually borrow from the library, so students have access to representational/diverse text. I would buy more flexible seating. My school provides regular desks and seats, but flexible seating has all been funded on my own. My students thrive with alternatives and giving them choices in the classroom is essential. I would buy more recess toys. My school funds essential academic materials, but it takes more than that to enrich a classroom experience.
