I grew up with teachers who saw potential in me before I saw it in myself. Their belief changed my world, and I became a teacher to pay that forward. I want to be the person who shifts a child’s trajectory through simple kindness and unwavering support. For me, teaching has never been just about the curriculum; it’s about the kids who are sitting behind the desks, waiting for someone to believe in them.

My most memorable experience isn’t a single moment, but a recurring one: the 20+ students who crowd into my room every day for lunch. Seeing former students—who aren't even on my roster anymore—choose my classroom as their 'safe harbor' is my greatest pride. I don’t just teach a curriculum; I build a family. Knowing that my students feel they can always 'come home' to my room, years after they’ve left my class, is the most rewarding part of this job.

While I’d use a portion to celebrate my upcoming wedding, the heart of this award would go directly back to my students. I would fully equip our room with a class set of calculators and giant magnetic graphs to make math accessible for every learner. Most importantly, I’d establish a permanent 'classroom pantry.' No student can learn while hungry, and this would ensure that my room remains a safe, well-fed haven for anyone in need.
