Learn MoreI became a teacher after my daughter was diagnosed with cancer on September 17, 2019. I was an OTR truck driver, but when she began treatments, I knew I had to be home. During that season, I saw how powerful teachers are in a child’s hardest moments. My “why” is showing up for kids, being their steady support, and reminding them they are capable, valued, and never alone, even on the toughest days.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching moment was when a struggling reader in my 2nd grade class read an entire page on his own for the first time. He once said, “I’m bad at reading,” but through small group support and encouragement, he gained confidence. The day he proudly said, “I did it,” reminded me why I teach. Seeing a child move from “I can’t” to “I can” is the greatest reward.
What would you do with the $25,000?If I won $25,000, I would invest it right back into my students and family. I would create engaging STEM and literacy experiences for my 2nd graders, update classroom technology, and build a book library that reflects every child. I would also set aside funds for my daughter’s continued health needs. Most of all, I’d use it to create opportunities that help kids believe big dreams are possible.
