Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I find immense fulfillment in the classroom and because children possess an innate openness and curiosity that makes every day feel like a fresh start. Teaching perfectly suits my love for creativity and learning. It ensures me that no two years are ever the same. I am constantly seeking new methods, and ideas to keep the learning journey exciting for both my students and myself.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I did a hands-on project based unit on Ancient Egypt. We transformed the classroom into a vibrant center of cultural immersion. To bridge the gap between antiquity and the modern day, students designed and constructed their own authentic Egyptian costumes, which they proudly wore for Halloween as a culmination of their research into the different members of society. I further deepened their learning through a role-playing exercise where students were the gds they researched.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I just started teaching social studies as a cluster. I would use the money to purchase supplies for projects and updated furniture. The tables are small for younger students and I have K-5 grade. The older students don't fit. Many projects need clay, cardboard, and poster board to name a few. I also would like to use the money to support field trips to historical sites around NYC that will support the learning in the classroom.
