Ruby Cavazos

I love teaching because I help students find confidence, grow their voices, and realize they’re capable of more than they believe.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to help students discover their potential and believe in themselves. Education opens doors, and I wanted to be someone who guides, supports, and encourages students along that path. Seeing students grow in confidence, curiosity, and skill reminds me that even small moments in the classroom can shape a child’s future.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments was watching a struggling student finally believe in themselves. After weeks of practice and encouragement, they proudly shared their work with the class. The smile on their face and the confidence in their voice reminded me why teaching matters, those moments when students realize they are capable of more than they thought.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I received $25,000, I would invest it in my classroom to create richer learning experiences for my students. I would purchase high-quality reading resources, technology, and flexible seating to support different learning styles. I would also provide engaging materials and incentives that motivate students to grow as readers and writers, helping them build confidence and a lifelong love of learning.
