Tell us why you became a teacher

Teaching allows me to support students not only academically, but emotionally and socially as well. I strive to create a classroom where students feel safe, valued, and encouraged to take risks in their learning. When students know someone believes in them, they begin to believe in themselves, and that is when real growth happens. I enjoy inspiring curiosity and a love of learning. Every day in the classroom is different, filled with questions, discoveries, and moments of growth.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of the most memorable moments happened during a school assembly. As a special educator, much of my students’ growth happens in small steps and often goes unseen. During the assembly, one of my students was unexpectedly called on to answer a question in front of the everyone. She has a stutter and worked very hard to build confidence. When she spoke, she said, “Mrs. Beach taught me that just because I have a learning dis-dis-disability doesn’t mean I can’t do anything.” My heart was full.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I received $25,000, I would use it to expand opportunities and resources for students while creating an even more supportive and engaging classroom environment. As a special education teacher, knowing that students learn best when instruction is personalized, hands-on, and supported with the right tools. I would invest in flexible seating and calming spaces within the classroom. Many students benefit from movement options or quiet areas where they can regulate their emotions and refocus.
