I love teaching because I was once an English learner. Now I help students find their voice, confidence, and pride in who they are.
Thank you for supporting Rosie Venegas in this year's competition. Your donations and participation will benefit The Planetary Society in their mission to advance space exploration, inspire discovery, and empower the next generation of innovators.
I became a teacher because as an immigrant, I experienced how difficult it can be to learn a second language and adjust to a new environment. Those challenges inspired me to support young learners, especially those who may be facing similar struggles. I want my students to feel understood, encouraged, and confident as they grow in their learning.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceOne memorable experience in my teaching career was watching a student who struggled with English being to gain confidence in the classroom. At the beginning of the year the student was very quiet and hesitant to participate. Over time, with encouragement and support, the student started sharing ideas, reading aloud, and engaging with classmates. Seeing that growth and confidence reminded me why supporting students through their learning journey is so meaningful to me.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use the funds to support my students and improve my classroom. I would invest in learning materials, books, and resources that help create an engaging and supportive environment for my young learners. I would also look for opportunities to continue growing as an educator so I can better support my students and their diverse needs. Receiving this award would allow me to give even more back to the children and families I serve.
