I chose teaching because I wanted to be the educator I needed as a child. Growing up with undiagnosed ADHD in a strict school environment, I often felt out of place. I was frequently in trouble for my impulsivity & talkative nature, which led me to believe I simply was not good at school. It took an aptitude test to reveal my potential. Once I began my education courses, I finally excelled. Now, after thirty years in the classroom, I remain dedicated to ensuring every child feels seen & capable.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

A child once told me he could not read and hated school. He was only five, but his frustration was already deep. Instead of forcing a book, we used blocks and play to build stories. The moment he realized those letters were keys to his own imagination, his entire face transformed. That spark of confidence is why I stay in the classroom. After thirty years, seeing a child transition from I cannot to I can remains the most powerful experience of my career.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Winning this would allow me to finally pay off my student loans, a weight I have carried throughout my career. I also plan to travel, seeking new experiences to bring back to my students. Of course, a significant portion would go directly into my classroom. I want to fund sensory play stations and hands-on materials that spark joy for my youngest learners. After thirty years of teaching, this would be a wonderful way to celebrate my dedication to education and my students.
