Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I’ve always had a great affection for children. I used to be the neighborhood babysitter. My mom worked in a school as a custodian and at one time a cook in the kitchen. I knew that I was going to work with kids one day and watching them learn is what makes my heart melt.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One year the 4th graders were struggling learning their multiplication facts. I wanted to help them and I thought of having a multiplication Bee. I spoke to my principal and got the okay. I then collaborated with my team to plan the event. The students were excited and started to become motivated to learn their facts. I even choreographed a song and dance to the tune of the Grease song “ You’re the One That I Want” with the students. It was amazing! They learned their facts and had a great time.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use this money to further my education and continue to be a life long learner. I’m planning on acquiring my doctorate degree to better serve my school community and continue to learn best practices in the field.
