Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher later in life after having a family of my own. After seeing my own children’s positive and negative experiences at school I decided I wanted to be a teacher. I want to be a positive influence to all children and ignite a fire for education through making learning fun and accessible to all.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable experience in teaching was when I taught students about plant and animal cells. A student viewed a cheek cell under a microscope and was so amazed! This student was typically not engaged in learning and struggled to focus but after seeing the cells they were full of questions and wonder. They told me the next day they want to be a biologist!

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000 I would purchase more computers for my school. We have a limited budget for technology and only have half a class set in most rooms. The computers we do have are old and damaged. This limits our online-based learning, as well as students’ access to technology that is vital in today’s technological world.
