Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe in the power of connection and the impact one caring adult can have on a teenager’s life. I wanted to create a space where students feel seen, heard, and supported while being challenged to grow. Teaching allows me to inspire curiosity through science, mentor students beyond the classroom, and guide them through their dreams and struggles. It’s my way of making a lasting difference every single day.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments was realizing my classroom had become a true safe haven, a place students choose when they feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or upset. I have intentionally created an environment where they feel seen, heard, and valued, even while being challenged academically. Watching them regulate their emotions, refocus, and still strive to complete their work and be their best selves reminds me why I teach and the impact a supportive space can have.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded the $25,000 prize, I would invest in continuing my education to better serve my students. Our school hopes to launch new programs, and advancing my learning would equip me with the skills and certifications to help make that vision a reality. By strengthening my expertise, I can expand opportunities, enrich instruction, and ensure my students are prepared for success beyond the classroom.
