Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I had teachers who instilled the love of learning and kindness into my life. I wanted to carry on those lessons and the influence they provided me. Our future generations need positive role models who will love, nurture, and build them up. I want my students to know that they have someone who sees them and is there when they need me. I may only be their teacher for a year, but I will always be one of their biggest fans

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience is not one major, giant, earth shattering event. My most memorable experience happens almost daily. Mostly, it is when one of my current students has a genuine interest or a smile on their face because of my class. Sometimes, it is when a former student shares with me the impact that they had from being in my class. Knowing that I am or have made their lives better, is the most rewarding experience. It pushes me everyday.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use a majority of the $25,000 on making improvements in my school that I feel would establish more pride in our school because of the improved aesthetics. I would replace the lockers in our school by finding a grant that could match my donation. Our current ones are falling apart and even though they have been repainted-the hallways still feel dingy. Furthermore I would love to create a space in our school that would be an area where students can lounge while finding solace and calm
