Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher initially because of my love for children! I quickly learned that there’s so much more than I thought to being a great, influential person in their lives. I’ve been teaching for over twenty years now. I’ll never forget my first grade teacher, Mrs. Marchant. She taught me what a devoted, loving teacher looks and feels like.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable moment as a teacher happens every time previous students come back to visit. Sometimes they tell me how grateful they are to have had me and ‘thank you’ for not giving up on them and teaching them how to read.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I had $25,000 I would give it back to the low income schools where the reading intervention programs have been cut because of funding. So many children experience reading difficulties and we need more dedicated teachers who can and want to help!
