Tell us why you became a teacher

became a teacher because I believe education changes lives, especially for students who are often overlooked. As a Special Education teacher, I advocate for students who learn differently, who struggle, who need patience, structure, and someone who refuses to give up on them. I became a teacher to build confidence, create opportunities, and help students realize that their challenges do not define their potential.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was with a student who came to me several grade levels behind in reading and math, with very little confidence and a history of behavior challenges. On paper, it looked overwhelming. But I saw potential. I’ll never forget the day that student read a full passage independently and answered comprehension questions correctly. The smile on their face said everything. It wasn’t just about reading it was about confidence.

What would you do with the $25,000?

First, I would invest in my classroom and students. As a Special Education teacher, there are always adaptive materials, sensory tools, updated technology, and differentiated curriculum resources that could make learning more accessible and engaging for my students. I would also create a small emergency fund for classroom needs so I’m not constantly spending out of pocket. Second, I would strengthen my personal financial foundation.
