I love having the ability to engage with a student in a way that changes their whole perspective about school, Science and themselves.

I became a teacher because I had a need within myself to help children feel smart and confident. I always want to make learning fun and engaging. Growing up I can’t remember all the days that I was at school, but I can remember some, and those were the days that we did something meaningful and unforgettable. That is what I strive to do every day for my own students.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI had a tough group one year, but had managed to make our class into a family where we were all able to talk and make mistakes. On this particular day, a student support worker was in taking notes on a child. He happened to walk in while we were discussing a yard issue. I asked if anyone needed to say anything and one of my girls puts her hand up to apologize for hitting a peer. The SSW was totally shocked that we were able to achieve this environment together. It was a proud moment.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use the money to upgrade our science instruments, many of which are quite old, rusted and missing parts. I would also take my class on more exciting learning experiences. I have always wanted to take them to the caves and caverns in our area to learn about rocks and minerals.
