Learn MoreI’ve known I wanted to teach since I was seven, watching my mom dedicate 37 years to her first graders. As I grew, I discovered a passion for history and knew I wanted to share it. Teaching lets me bring the past to life while helping students think critically and see their value. It’s more than a job — it’s my calling, my purpose, and my way of giving back to my community.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceThe day before the SAT, my anxious juniors expected review. Instead, I read Maybe by Kobi Yamada. I reminded them they are more than a test score — they are enough. Some cried. Later, notes thanked me for saying what no one else had. That day taught me relationships matter more than curriculum. Now I read a children’s book every nine weeks. It transformed my classroom.
What would you do with the $25,000?My 16-year-old daughter was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a rare degenerative genetic disorder causing vision loss. We’re traveling to top specialists, and insurance doesn’t cover all vision therapy or adaptive technology she’ll need for college. This award would fund medical care, travel, and specialized equipment so she can remain independent and pursue her dreams despite vision loss.
