Becoming a teacher for me goes far beyond having a job. My reasons first and foremost start with the students. As a teacher, I can shape futures, make differences that are visible, continue to be a learner, contribute to society beginning in the classroom, and build meaningful relationships. Being a teacher is about building the relationships that gives opportunities for mentoring, guiding, shaping, and encouraging the students towards success.

My most memorable teaching experience has to be the moment that one of my past students came to me with a hug and said "Mrs. Traylor, thank you for changing my life." That moment not only melted my heart, gave me a smile on my face, and of course chills; it was my confirmation of purpose to teaching. For all that child needed was building the relationship, listening, and understanding how to help her in the classroom to focus her learning that would allow confidence of success to bloom.

I work and live in a very low socio-economic community. Being a teacher, I am always purchasing things myself that will benefit my students. The opportunity to win $25,000 would allow me to put into my classroom and students. We are blessed by our community and district, but any other support is always appreciated for our students. The money would be beneficial for supplies, social-emotional, and creative learning items.
