Tell us why you became a teacher

Teaching was never on my radar as I went through college, but after I graduated with a Geology degree, I was looking for jobs and kept coming across teaching careers. They were the only thing I found interest in. So, I decided to go back to school to earn my masters in education and become a teacher. Turns out I fell in love with it and I haven’t looked back since! I think it was a calling and just meant to be.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience is developing my own class and watching students’ interest grow. I created a Geology class for my high school students that got approved as a science credit towards graduation. It is the only Geology class in the state! Through teaching this class, I’ve watched my students’ fascination with the natural world grow. I even have students that want to major in Geology in college. Exposing them to a field they knew so little about has been so rewarding!

What would you do with the $25,000?

With the $25,000, I would invest in my child’s future. I am about to have my first baby in June and my biggest desire is to set her up so that she can be comfortable as she ages into adulthood. Living in West Virginia, many people struggle to get by. I want to ensure that my daughter doesn’t have those same struggles, so I would put the money into investment funds for her future.
