I became a teacher to help students reach their potential, first guiding athletes toward college scholarships, then serving twice-exceptional learners. I joined the Discovery School at its start, growing from 1 of 4 teachers to 1 of 10 in STEM education. I’ve spent 8 years in education, 5 of them at Discovery School, fostering curiosity and growth in every student I teach!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of many examples of a memorable teaching experience is this year we will celebrate our first Discovery School graduate! She is a student we’ve had since 2021. Watching her, alongside many others, grow academically and socially has been the most memorable part of my teaching experience. With many returning students, I get to see firsthand the lasting impact of our work, both in and out of the classroom!

What would you do with the $25,000?

The $25,000 would greatly help my two-teacher household with student loans and living expenses. I’d also invest part into our tutoring business, Hyde Tutoring to expand our impact, offering individualized lesson planning and meeting students where they are academically, encouraging small group or individualized education plans, potentially reaching even more learners.
