Students feel proud of themselves for what they learn and create. I am grateful to be a part of that process. Reciprocal inspiration.

Learn MoreStepping away from stage dreams, I got my first job at a clay studio where I was also fulfilling my art requirements. A positive influence—my professor, a role-model, told me that I could be an artist, and that I was a great teacher. Her words deeply moved me as no one had ever told me that before. Sure I volunteered to help with kid’s classes but I just treated everyone like my 5 younger siblings whom I did art projects with & adored. Her words gave my life direction. (Singing is still handy!)
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy students constantly inspire me in so many ways. We both push each other to overcome—whether artistic obstacles, fitness goals, or navigating personal struggles. The magnitude of their creativity and fortitude never cease to amaze me. But what stands out the most are the small acts of kindness and support from everyone within my district and community, whether showing up to a game, sharing some warm, fresh-baked Turkish bread, saying “good morning” with a smile, fundraising—the simple things.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would put the money towards buying my first home.
