Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe education changes lives. Teaching gives me the chance to guide students as they discover their abilities, develop critical thinking, and build confidence in who they are. I wanted to be the kind of educator who challenges students to grow while also supporting them through the process. Seeing students make connections, overcome obstacles, and realize their potential is what makes teaching meaningful to me.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was organizing a multicultural festival that connected every subject area and allowed students to celebrate cultures from around the world. Another was starting a guitar ensemble from scratch. With only three months of practice, the students worked hard, believed in themselves, and went on to win at competition. Watching their confidence and teamwork grow was unforgettable.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded the $25,000, I would use it to pursue higher education so I can continue growing as an educator and literacy leader. I would also invest in my literacy nonprofit to expand access to books and tutoring. In addition, I would create a school supply closet stocked with donated materials so students and families always have access to the supplies they need to succeed.
