I became a teacher because I wanted to make learning meaningful and accessible for every student. Science gave me a way to explain the world, and I wanted students to experience that same sense of discovery. Teaching allows me to challenge students to think, solve problems, and believe in their abilities. Seeing growth in confidence and understanding from the beginning to the end of the year is what keeps me committed to the profession.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments was when former students surprised me with a cake on the last day of school thanking me for being their teacher. Seeing students take the time to come back and show appreciation reminded me that teaching is about relationships as much as academics. That moment showed me that the effort, high expectations, and support given throughout the year truly mattered to them.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 to pay down the cost of my master’s degree in educational leadership. Earning that degree strengthened my ability to support students and teachers beyond my classroom. Reducing that financial burden would allow me to continue investing time and energy into creating meaningful learning experiences and expanding opportunities for students.
