Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I was inspired by the teachers that taught me. I know that teachers can make a positive impact in learning and in life and I wanted to do just that. Throughout my own education, I encountered teachers who transformed the way I learned. Some made math come alive through stories, real world examples, or simply their enthusiasm. Others shown me how patience and encouragement can build confidence where there was once uncertainty. I just want to make a difference.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

The most memorable teaching experience will always be the same as every year. Every year there is a special moment in time where those students that have struggled at one time suddenly have their aha moment! When that quiet child comes out of their shell. When the students are disappointed because it’s Friday and they don’t want the day to end and not have school on Saturday and Sunday. But of course I always will love when they find their love for school and math becomes their favorite subjec.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I will definitely make the treasure box in my class a whole lot bigger and better! Sharing it with my students in a celebration would be amazing. I would also like to invest in a math and science resource that will benefit my bilingual students and share with my team. Finally I would like to use it for personal medical expenses that I have planned in the near future.
