Tell us why you became a teacher

I come from a family of educators. Father was a teacher principal for 30 years. I have one sister who has taught for almost 30 years as a high school social studies/history teacher. I have one brother who is currently a principal in his 3rd year. Why I became an Intervention Specialist is due to have an older brother with special needs. As a believer, I know that my path was set for me, and I'm expected to carry out his works. I'm expected to help those that need additional support.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Every year I have multiple IEP meetings. These meetings don't always have to most positive feel to them. We have to work and talk with families about how we are creating a plan to help their child who doesn't do what others in the school can do. However, it's my mission to see the families change their mindset for each of these meetings. See that we are not fixed in our thoughts about our kids or students regardless of what hand they have been delt. Each time this happens, it's memorable.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would donate some to my church. I would invest money for my three boys future academics adventures. I would personally invest to make sure I'm able to build future wealth off such an amazing gift and blessing. I would use some towards my classroom and students. Upgrading materials or resources that would directly impact my classroom and the students I am serving.
