I love teaching because it transforms lives—connecting cultures, nurturing potential, and leading with purpose and heart.
Thank you for supporting Oscar Ortiz in this year's competition. Your donations and participation will benefit The Planetary Society in their mission to advance space exploration, inspire discovery, and empower the next generation of innovators.
I became a teacher to open doors for students by connecting them with the world beyond their classroom. As a bilingual educator and global learning advocate, I bring cultures, languages, and innovation into daily learning. My faith and service inspire me to nurture each child’s gifts, support diverse learners, and build inclusive communities where every student feels seen, valued, and capable of success.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceWhen I connected my students with a ranger at Yellowstone National Park via Skype, the classroom came alive. My bilingual learners asked real-time questions about wildlife, ecosystems, and conservation, seeing their studies become real. That moment showed them the world was within reach—and affirmed my mission to bring global experiences into everyday learning.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would invest the $25,000 in inclusive, hands-on learning experiences that ensure every child feels seen and capable. I’d expand assistive technologies and sensory-friendly spaces, provide bilingual/global resources, and fund virtual field experiences connecting students with diverse experts and cultures. I’d also support family engagement workshops so inclusion extends beyond the classroom into our community.
