I love to teach. As M. Proust wrote; real discovery isn’t new landscapes but having new eyes. My role is to help students learn to see anew.

Learn MoreI became a teacher to give students the kind of encouragement and high expectations I needed when I was their age. I want young people, especially in under-resourced communities, to see themselves as scientists, problem-solvers, and leaders.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceOne of my fondest memories was watching a class that once “hated” science proudly present self-designed experiments at our school STEM night, with families asking them thoughtful questions. Another is a student who once feared physics but, over time, gained confidence and graduated last year with a major in political science and a minor in physics.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use the 25,000 dollars to create a student-centered STEM lab with hands-on materials, robotics kits, and real-world data tools. I would fund community-based projects so students can investigate issues in their own neighborhood. I would also take students on a field trip to Brookhaven National Laboratory, where my experience as an NYAS resident scientist inspired me to become a full-time teacher. Of course, I would give myself and my family a little treat for the love and support.
