Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to help young people see their worth, discover their voice, and realize their potential. In communities where students are often underestimated, I wanted to be the educator who challenges, affirms, and opens doors. Teaching allows me to blend academic growth with character, confidence, and purpose—guiding students not just toward success in school, but toward belief in themselves and their future.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was watching students who once believed they “weren’t math people” begin to persevere, solve problems, and celebrate their growth. In an urban classroom where confidence was often low, I saw mindsets shift and pride emerge. Moments when students realized they were capable—sometimes for the first time—reminded me that teaching changes not just skills, but identity and future possibility.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 to expand access to high-quality learning experiences for my students through instructional resources, enrichment opportunities, and leadership development. Funds would support hands-on math materials, test-prep supports, and student incentives, while also helping provide college exposure experiences and confidence-building opportunities that many of my students would not otherwise have access to.
