I became a teacher to be the kind of educator I needed when I was younger. Over the past 12 years teaching 8th grade U.S. history, I’ve focused on building genuine connections with my students and bringing history to life in ways that are fun, engaging and relevant. My goal is to create a classroom where every student feels valued, supported, and confident in their voice.

While I’ve loved seeing the creativity students bring to interactive projects over the years, the most memorable moments come from watching them grow beyond my classroom. For example, one of my first-year students is now my colleague: we teach 8th grade U.S. history side by side. Seeing her return as a teacher, and my teammate, reminds me why I do this work: to help students blossom, to witness their potential, and to know you’ve made a real difference in their lives.

I would pay off some debts and also, in the spirit of education, I would dedicate the rest to celebrating the power of learning for both my family and my students. I’d start saving for my daughter’s college, showing her how deeply I value education, and give my students unforgettable experiences through field trips and classroom awards, honoring their curiosity, creativity, and growth while helping them feel seen, supported, and inspired.
