Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe children’s voices deserve to be heard and valued. Too often, adults limit young people, assuming they lack experience or insight. I have learned the opposite. Through my teaching fellowship, I discovered that when we truly listen, children reveal wisdom, creativity, and leadership beyond expectations. When given space to think and speak boldly, they rise—and they thrive.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience has been learning that data informs instruction, but it does not define it. My students and I transformed parts of our curriculum into songs, turning rigorous content into something joyful and unforgettable. Through music, they mastered standards while building confidence and community. This approach strengthened relationships and allowed students to express themselves authentically while staying deeply connected to their learning.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Winning $25,000 would be transformational for my students. It would fund a camping trip aligned to our “Extreme Environments” module, giving them real-world learning beyond the classroom. The funds would also provide school clothes, hygiene products, and supplies for families in need. Additionally, it would support our middle school cheerleaders with safe mats and new uniforms so they can perform with pride and confidence.
