I was a social worker for many years and decided to go back to school to earn my Master’s Degree in Special Education at age 49. Flashback, In 2011 I experienced a devastating loss, my 12 year old child suffered a brain hemorrhage and passed away very unexpectedly. If my daughter would have survived she would have had profound cognitive and academic limitations. This was my main reason for pursuing special education. I have a passion for working with students who require empathy and patience.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience was when a 2nd grade student, that had been struggling to learn how to read, was able to blend sounds to decode a word for the first time. The excitement and pride that child exhibited was simply encouraging and inspiring.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would utilize the funding to assist with a tutoring program at my current elementary school. Funds were recently cut and we unfortunately are not able to serve as many students.
