Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to make a positive impact on students’ lives and help them build confidence, skills, and lifelong healthy habits. My basketball coach and elementary PE teacher played a huge role as mentors, believing in me and shaping who I am today. They inspired me to create that same supportive environment where students feel valued, empowered, and capable of reaching their full potential.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was watching a student who was hesitant and lacked confidence successfully complete an obstacle course they once avoided. The smile on their face and their excitement to try again showed true growth. In that moment, I saw how encouragement, support, and a positive environment can help students believe in themselves and achieve more than they thought possible.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would help build an adaptive, inclusive playground so every student can safely play, move, and belong. Funds would support wheelchair-accessible ramps, inclusive swings, sensory panels, and accessible surfacing. This space would promote physical activity, confidence, and social connection for students of all abilities, ensuring every child has equal opportunities to play, grow, and feel included.
