Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I grew up in an immigrant household where English wasn’t spoken. School was confusing, and I often translated for my parents after learning bits of English each day. Living between home and school worlds showed me how isolating it can feel. I now serve multilingual learners so they feel seen, supported, and confident, and to give back to the community that shaped me.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was supporting a student who felt lost and off track. Through patience, encouragement, and consistent belief in her abilities, she began to grow in confidence and success. At the end of the year, she thanked me for never giving up on her and said she wanted to become a teacher so she could help students the way I helped her.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I win $25,000, I would give back to the community that shaped me by creating a student care closet stocked with essentials like socks, deodorant, and snacks for families with limited budgets. I would also fund meaningful field trips so students can explore new places and create lifelong memories. Additionally, I would purchase a washer and dryer so students can wash jackets and clothing with dignity and comfort.
